The concept is to keep the original dwelling, which houses the bedrooms, a study, formal lounge, bathrooms and laundry, and build a north facing living pod out the back. The link between the original house and the new living pod is a space for the client’s grand piano, and two decks. The client wanted an open and light space to play the piano, so this space has glass walls and decks either side to increase its open feeling. The north facing living pod accommodates an open plan Kitchen dining and Lounge area, and a separate Rumpus room for the kids. The roof rakes to the north with high level windows. The views are to the south, where there is a large deck. There are three decks each with different orientations, offering a choice of outdoor spaces that can be used all year round.
