This renovation extension project is located in South Durras, just north of Batemans Bay and on the Nature Coast of New South Wales.

The accommodation brief for the new configuration was to provide for large family get-togethers, and to include five bedrooms a large garage or carport and a couple of living spaces to meet this demand.

There are significant views from the block at the rear as the land backs closely onto the heavily wooded National Park to the south.  Taking advantage of these views was important whilst also responding to a requirement for more intimate and sunny ’inside /outside’ areas.

The distinctive form of the existing building has been ‘made over’ and the dwelling retained.  It now contributes approximately 60 m² to the total development total of 270m2. The new elements consist of two primary forms; a carport fronting the street and the main bulk of the extension behind this.  The new forms also a strong architectural configuration with an inverted curved ceiling being the key visually articulating feature.  These new additions to the building have been “floated off” from the original by links and external spaces to enable their morphology to be more clearly articulated.
