Lanyon Community Centre

The Lanyon Community Centre has provided a much-needed social facility for this area of South Canberra. The design was conceived to allow the two elements of the building to express their differing usage. One part of the building has, as its primary function, a youth centre while the other is intended for use by older sections of the community.

Although both buildings are essentially similar in built form the external cladding treatment reflects the different aspirations and usages of the generational groups. The underlying message of the building is that although we may appear differently we are all essentially similar on the inside.
