Elwood House

The brief for this renovation and extension stemmed from a requirement to house the blended families of two medical specialists. In addition to creating a new master bedroom suite and rationalising underutilised spaces within the house the main objective was to make better use of significantly good views across a valley in the Canberra suburb of Farrer.

The main part of the extension contains the casual living areas in the form of a kitchen/meals/family room area which opens out onto a private enclosed north-facing courtyard for winter use. The other end of this space leads onto a hardwood deck that takes best advantage of the aspect, views and provides a dramatic architectural expression at the front of the house.
