Curtis House

The construction of this mud brick house in 1994 by an owner builder couple Kevin and Helen Curtis was a bold and largely successful enterprise.

Designed by Peter Overton is located on a block to the north of Canberra, East of Bungendore in rural NSW. This house was TT Architecture’s first of several experiments with cavity mud block construction.

The combination of simple curved roof forms, coloured concrete floors, recycled materials, high energy rating and large capacity water storage tanks have made this early design a significant and enduring statement of sustainability.
