Finley House

Jan and Phil Finley they decided they wanted to draw a line under their previous existence, rationalise their working and living arrangements. As a consequence they commissioned TT Architecture to design a house in the Jerrabomberra suburb of Queanbeyan, to the east of Canberra. TT Architecture responded with a well balanced series of simple architectural forms capped with subtle curved roofs and a floor plan nestled into a tricky sloping site.

The requirement for glazing to be the rear of the house to respond to local wooded views and the requirements of good solar access provided a well met challenge to create a front facade with sufficient architectural interest.

The design response is a quintessentially Antipodean approach and pays homage to the work of contemporary Australian architects and the contemporary aesthetic coined; “leaves of iron”.
